Adineta cf acuticornis Haigh 1964 from Antarctica
Adineta acuticornis: dorsal view. The last segment of the trunk is wider (bolster) and suddenly narrows foot-wise. The spurs are horn-like and curved backwards.

Adineta acuticornis: lateral view.
Adineta acuticornis: lateral view. Crop of the above image. This 3 lines A, B, C represent 3 planes of optical transects in dorsoventral viwl as shown in the lower images.
Adineta acuticornis: aspects of the head in dorsoventral view. Upper left: ventral view on the ciliary field with some of the U-hooks visible (optical transect approx. plane C). Upper right: optical transect approx. plane B showing the bristles beneath the rostrum lamella. Lower left: optical transect approx. plane C) with contracted ciliary field and folded rostrom lamella. Lower right: dorsoventral view (optical transect approx. plane B). The arrows point to some round structures (which are out of focus in the lower left image). when the ciliary field is contracted the distal parts of the rakes are bent thus forming a light-refracting cavity which gives the illusion of some globules. But this is an optical artifact. This phenomenon might be an explanation for the structures that Berzins found in Adineta rhomboidea.

Adineta acuticornis: foot with the long tapering spurs.
Adineta acuticornis: another specimen
Adineta acuticornis: trophi and rake apparatus of specimen treated with Sodium Hypochoirite (NaOCl).
Adineta acuticornis: rake apparatus (crop of the above image). The number of U-hooks is 5 in each rake (arrowheads).
Adineta acuticornis: another specimen.
Adineta acuticornis: egg
